Cannon Hill Park, Kings Heath Park and Handsworth Park have won Green Flag Awards for 2026, the first time Birmingham parks have received the award since 2022.

The scheme, run by Keep Britain Tidy, sets the benchmark for well-managed parks and green spaces. This year 2,391 sites across the country are on its roll of honour.

The three parks are maintained by Birmingham City Council with support from their Friends groups. The awards were presented at a ceremony at Alexander Stadium on 15 July.

"Every time we win or retain a Green Flag Award, it is a tribute to each and every member of our parks staff and the volunteers whose hard work and effort make our open spaces the great assets that they are," said Councillor Deborah Harries, Cabinet Member for Culture.

Councillor Harries, who founded and chairs a Friends of park group herself, said parks provide space for exercise and relaxation and bring real environmental benefits. She pointed to the council's 25-year City of Nature plan and to Birmingham being declared the UK's first Nature City last year.

The council's parks service says it now wants to increase the number of Green Flag parks across the city.
