1. Who we are

Discover Brum (“we”, “us”, “our”) runs the website at discoverbrum.com - a community platform for Birmingham, covering events, business and profile listings, news, jobs, a forum and a community feed.

By using the site or creating an account you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the site.

2. Your account

• You must be at least 16 years old to create an account.
• Give accurate details and keep your email address current - we use it to verify your account and to send service messages.
• You are responsible for keeping your password secure and for everything done through your account.
• One person, one account. Do not impersonate anyone else or claim to represent a business you have no authority over.
• Tell us straight away if you think someone else has accessed your account.

3. Acceptable use

When you post, comment, list or message on Discover Brum, you agree not to:

• Post anything unlawful, defamatory, harassing, hateful, threatening or discriminatory.
• Post sexual content involving minors, or content promoting violence or self-harm.
• Spam, scrape, bulk-message, or advertise outside the listing and advertising sections.
• Post anything misleading about a business, event, job or offer - including fake reviews, or reviews you were paid to leave.
• Upload malware, attempt to break site security, or access accounts or data that are not yours.
• Use automated tools to copy the site’s content or listings without our written permission.

We may remove content, suspend an account or refuse a listing where we reasonably believe these terms have been broken.

4. Content you post

You keep ownership of everything you post. By posting it you give us a non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to host, display, reproduce and distribute it on Discover Brum and in our own promotion of the site, including on our social channels.

You confirm you have the right to post it - including the rights to any photographs, logos or text you did not create yourself. You can delete your content or your account at any time; copies may remain in backups for a limited period, and content others have quoted or shared may persist.

5. Listings, events and offers

• Listings are submitted by their owners. We may review, edit for house style, recategorise or decline a submission.
• You are responsible for the accuracy of your own listing - opening hours, prices, contact details and licences included.
• Offers, deals and competitions are run by the business posting them, not by us, unless the page says otherwise.
• Paid placements, featured listings and advertising are labelled as such.

6. Membership and payments

Some features may require a paid membership. Where they do, the price, billing period and renewal terms are shown before you pay. Paid plans renew automatically until cancelled. You can cancel at any time from your account: cancelling stops the next payment, and access continues to the end of the period you have already paid for. Your statutory rights to a refund are unaffected.

7. Third-party content and links

The site links to other websites and to our social profiles. We do not control those and are not responsible for their content or their privacy practices. Content posted by other members is theirs, not ours.

8. Our intellectual property

The Discover Brum name, logo, site design, and the arrangement and compilation of the directory are ours. You may link to us freely and quote short extracts with credit; you may not copy the site, its design or its listings wholesale.

9. Availability and liability

We work to keep the site available and accurate but cannot promise it will be uninterrupted or error-free, and information submitted by members may be out of date. Check important details - event times, prices, opening hours - with the organiser or business directly.

Nothing in these terms limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be limited. Beyond that, and to the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, lost profits or loss of data arising from your use of the site.

10. Suspension and closing your account

You can delete your account from your profile settings. We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms, or that we reasonably believe is being used fraudulently or to harm other members.

11. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms as the site grows. The date at the top of this page shows when they last changed, and we will tell registered members about significant changes by email or an on-site notice. Continuing to use the site after a change means you accept the updated terms.

12. Law and contact

These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have exclusive jurisdiction.
