Prince William marries Catherine Middleton
The couple become the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.
Prince William has married Catherine Middleton at Westminster Abbey, in a ceremony watched by hundreds of millions of people around the world.
The wedding took place on 29 April, a public holiday in Britain. The couple have been given the titles Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.
The ceremony
Around 1,900 guests attended the service, including members of the royal family, foreign royals, politicians and celebrities. The bride wore a dress designed by Sarah Burton of Alexander McQueen, and arrived at the abbey with her father, Michael Middleton, in a Rolls-Royce.
The couple exchanged vows in front of the Archbishop of Canterbury, Rowan Williams. Prince Harry was his brother's best man, and the bride's sister, Pippa Middleton, was maid of honour.
Crowds in London
Hundreds of thousands of people lined the streets of London to watch the procession from Westminster Abbey to Buckingham Palace, where the couple appeared on the balcony and shared two kisses in front of cheering crowds.
A flypast by aircraft including a Lancaster bomber, a Spitfire and Typhoon jets followed.
Street parties
Thousands of street parties were held across the country, including in Birmingham, where residents in many neighbourhoods closed roads, hung bunting and shared food. Large screens showed the ceremony in public spaces in many towns and cities.
The couple
Prince William, 28, is second in line to the throne. He met Catherine Middleton, 29, when they were both students at the University of St Andrews in Scotland. They announced their engagement in November.
The prince serves as a search and rescue helicopter pilot with the Royal Air Force in Anglesey, where the couple live.
A popular royal family
The wedding has boosted the popularity of the royal family. Many have compared it to the wedding of William's parents, Prince Charles and Lady Diana Spencer, at St Paul's Cathedral in 1981.
William's mother, Diana, Princess of Wales, died in 1997. William gave his bride the sapphire and diamond engagement ring that belonged to her.
A global audience
The ceremony was broadcast around the world, and was one of the most watched television events in history.
The couple are expected to spend the weekend in Britain before going on honeymoon.
