Original Patty Men to join Saint Paul's Market in the Jewellery Quarter
The burger favourite is the newest trader at the food hall, which has had more than 300,000 visitors in its first year.
One of Birmingham's best-known burger brands is opening at Saint Paul's Market, the food hall in the Jewellery Quarter.
The Original Patty Men, known as OPM, will bring its burgers, chicken, dirty fries and other favourites to the market, along with specials created just for the new site.
A first birthday
Saint Paul's Market has just celebrated its first birthday, having welcomed more than 300,000 visitors in its first year. It is run by Independent Birmingham, which champions the city's independent businesses.
Joe Schuppler, the founder of Independent Birmingham, said: "We're so excited to welcome OPM to Saint Paul's Market. With over 10 years on the street food scene, they've established themselves as one of the city's most known and loved independents."
"We can't wait for them to join our line-up and bring their iconic burgers to the Jewellery Quarter."
From street food to a city favourite
OPM was founded by Tom and Scott more than ten years ago and has built a reputation for some of the best burgers in the city. Among its best-known dishes are:
- the Cheezy-E cheeseburger
- the Pineapple Express, a burger with pineapple hot sauce
- the Alabama Slammer, a chicken burger with two kinds of hot sauce
- honey and barbecue wings
Guests at the market can expect a menu of firm favourites alongside exclusive specials.
Food halls on the rise
Food halls have become one of the most successful formats in Birmingham's hospitality scene. They let independent traders open with lower costs than a full restaurant, share seating, bars and footfall, and give customers a wide choice under one roof.
For established brands like OPM, a food hall stall is a way to reach new customers in a different part of the city without the risk of a large new site. For the halls, a well-known name helps draw in visitors who then try the other traders.
The Jewellery Quarter has seen a wave of new bars and restaurants in recent years as more people have moved into flats in the area, giving it a growing population of residents as well as the office workers and visitors it has always attracted.
Independent Birmingham
Independent Birmingham began as a way to promote the city's independent shops, bars and restaurants, and runs a membership card offering discounts at local businesses. Its first year at Saint Paul's Market, with more than 300,000 visitors, suggests there is strong demand for independent food in that part of the city.
A date for OPM's opening at the market has not yet been announced, and is expected to be shared on the market's and OPM's social media channels.
