2025 Nobel Peace Prize
Machado is a leader of the democratic opposition in Venezuela, and has been living in hiding after the disputed presidential election of 2024.
The 2025 Nobel Peace Prize has been awarded to María Corina Machado. The prize was announced by the Norwegian Nobel Committee in Oslo on 10 October 2025.
The citation
The citation reads: "for her tireless work promoting democratic rights for the people of Venezuela and for her struggle to achieve a just and peaceful transition from dictatorship to democracy".
The laureate
María Corina Machado was born in 1967 in Venezuela.

The prize
The prize is worth 11 million Swedish kronor. It will be presented in Oslo on 10 December, the anniversary of the death of Alfred Nobel, the Swedish inventor of dynamite whose will founded the prizes in 1895.
