Joe Root and Jordan Cox steered England to an eight-wicket win over Pakistan at Edgbaston, completing a 3-0 Test series sweep.

It is England's first home series whitewash of Pakistan.

A nervy start

Set 130 to win on the fourth day, England lost both openers in the first over. Mohammad Abbas bowled Ben Duckett first ball and then trapped Emilio Gay lbw, both without scoring.

Root and Cox then settled things with an unbroken stand of 128. England reached their target in 24.2 overs, with Root finishing on 62 not out and Cox on 59 not out.

How the match unfolded

England dominated the first innings, making 453 before bowling Pakistan out for 133. Following on, Pakistan fought back to make 449, setting up the short chase.

The standout visiting performer was debutant Razaullah. He bowled Root with only his fourth ball in Test cricket, and then hit 81 from 63 balls with nine sixes, equalling the record for the most sixes by a player on Test debut.

"The amount of uncertainty, noise and chaos... the way the guys have dealt with that... is really pleasing," said Root.
