Blues have lost only once, at Norwich, but five draws show they have not always turned good positions into wins. Home crowds at St Andrew's have regularly topped 25,000.

Derby day

Blues travel to The Hawthorns to face West Bromwich Albion on Saturday 10 October. Matches between the two clubs are among the most keenly contested in the region. They then host Preston North End on Tuesday 13 October.

Promotion ambitions

Under the club's American owners, Blues have invested heavily in the squad and in plans for a new stadium and sports quarter in Bordesley Park. Many supporters see promotion to the Premier League as the target.

The Championship

The Championship is one of the most competitive leagues in the world, with 24 clubs playing 46 matches. The top two are promoted automatically to the Premier League, and the next four enter the play-offs.

The women's team

Birmingham City Women, promoted to the WSL this summer, drew 3-3 with Crystal Palace on Sunday.
