Birmingham Airport has record August, but apologises for baggage fault
More than 1.57 million passengers flew in August, with Dublin the most popular destination.
More than 1.5 million passengers passed through Birmingham Airport in August, another record month for the airport, although it has apologised for disruption caused by a fault with its baggage screening system.
A total of 1,575,318 passengers used the terminal, up 3.7 per cent on August 2025, with low-cost airlines growing fastest at 11 per cent year on year.

Dublin was the most popular destination, with 84,353 passengers, followed by Palma, Alicante, Dubai and Malaga.
Baggage problems
During the month, a fault in the X-ray screening system meant some bags did not travel on the same flights as their owners.
"Although we are proud to have reached record passenger numbers again this month, we know this will be no consolation to the passengers whose holidays were disrupted by the baggage fault in August," said chief commercial officer Matt Hazelwood.
He said the priority had been to maintain safety and security while working with airlines to reunite passengers with their luggage, and that the fault has since been fixed.
Charity milestone
August also saw a new Wagamama open in the departure lounge, and the airport's fundraising partnership with Birmingham Children's Hospital Charity passed £200,000. Eighteen months into a three-year partnership with a target of £250,000, the airport has more events planned, including a dragon boat race on the city's canals and a charity dinner in October.
