Warwickshire crowned county champions at Edgbaston
Ethan Bamber took nine wickets as Leicestershire were beaten by an innings and 79 runs.
Warwickshire are county champions for the ninth time after thrashing Leicestershire by an innings and 79 runs at Edgbaston to seal the Rothesay County Championship title.
The win, completed inside eight sessions, ended any doubt about the destination of the trophy. It is Warwickshire's fourth Championship of the 21st century and their first since 2021.
Bamber does the damage
Ethan Bamber was the hero. The seamer took four for 42 in Leicestershire's first innings and five for 52 in the second, finishing with match figures of nine for 94. Chris Woakes, who shared seven first innings wickets with Bamber, added three for 38 as Leicestershire were bowled out again.
Tom Scriven top-scored for the visitors with 49 in their second innings, and it was fitting that Bamber bowled him to finish the match. Warwickshire's players sprinted in from their fielding positions to celebrate in the middle, in front of their own supporters.
A dominant finish
Ed Barnard's side won five of their last six Championship matches, three of them by an innings, in one of the most emphatic run-ins in recent memory. They finished on 225 points, 20 ahead of second-placed Somerset.
Who goes up and down
Leicestershire and Hampshire are relegated from Division One. Durham, who went through Division Two unbeaten, and Kent will replace them next season.
What it means
The County Championship is the oldest and most prestigious competition in English domestic cricket, played over four days. Winning it is seen as the ultimate test of a county's depth, because it runs from April to September and demands consistency across a long season.
Edgbaston's big year
It caps a busy year at Edgbaston, which earlier this month hosted England's Test against Pakistan, when England completed a 3-0 series sweep.
