Villa Women beaten 4-0 at Tottenham
Four second-half goals left Villa 13th in the WSL with two points.
Aston Villa Women suffered their second defeat of the Women's Super League season on Sunday, losing 4-0 away to Tottenham Hotspur.
The game was goalless at half-time, but Spurs scored four times after the break to stay unbeaten. Victoria Pelova scored twice, with Caitlin Dijkstra and Cathinka Tandberg also on target.
Where Villa stand
The result leaves Villa 13th in the 14-team table with two points from their first four games, level on points with Birmingham City, who drew 3-3 with Crystal Palace on the same day.
Tottenham are second with ten points and are one of only two teams still unbeaten in the top flight this season.
A tough start
Villa have been in the WSL since winning promotion in 2020 and have established themselves in the league, but this has been a difficult start to the season. They will be looking to put points on the board quickly to move away from the bottom of the table.
Spurs on the rise
Tottenham have invested heavily in their women's team in recent years and have become one of the stronger sides in the league. Victoria Pelova, a Netherlands international, has been one of their key players.
The league
Manchester City lead the WSL with 12 points from four games, with Spurs and Chelsea on ten. At the bottom, Charlton Athletic, who won promotion through the play-offs, are yet to pick up a point.
Growing the women's game in Birmingham
With both Villa and Birmingham City now in the WSL, the city has two top-flight women's teams for the first time since 2022. Crowds at women's football have grown sharply in recent years, and both clubs have been working to attract new supporters.
