The Rep brings The Snowman and a new Turn of the Screw
A new puppet production of the Raymond Briggs classic opens on 20 October.
The Birmingham Rep's autumn programme includes a brand new production of The Snowman and the world premiere of a new version of The Turn of the Screw.
The Snowman
The Snowman runs from Tuesday 20 October to Sunday 1 November. The new production is based on Raymond Briggs's much-loved picture book and features Howard Blake's score, including the famous song Walking in the Air. It uses beautifully crafted puppets to tell the story of a boy and the snowman who comes to life and flies him away.
The Snowman has been a festive favourite for decades, and a stage version has long been part of Christmas theatre in the UK.
The Turn of the Screw
For audiences who prefer a chill of a different kind, the writer Morgan Lloyd Malcolm presents the world premiere of a new version of The Turn of the Screw, based on Henry James's ghost story. It runs in The Studio from Thursday 29 to Saturday 31 October, just in time for Halloween.
Morgan Lloyd Malcolm is known for plays including Emilia, which transferred to the West End.
About the Rep
The Birmingham Repertory Theatre was founded in 1913 by Barry Jackson and is one of the oldest building-based theatre companies in Britain. Its home on Centenary Square, next to the Library of Birmingham, has three spaces: the main House, The Studio and The Door, which focuses on new writing.
Many famous actors began their careers at the Rep, including Laurence Olivier, Albert Finney and Derek Jacobi.
Literature Festival partner
The Rep is also a partner of Birmingham Literature Festival, which runs from 8 to 12 October, and it is helping to distribute brochures for Birmingham Black History Month.
Tickets
Tickets are available from the Rep's box office and website. The theatre offers relaxed, captioned and audio-described performances for some shows.
