Sabina Kauser on course to lead Birmingham Law Society
The Ward Hadaway partner was confirmed as Vice President at the society's AGM.
Sabina Kauser, a partner at law firm Ward Hadaway, has become Vice President of Birmingham Law Society, putting her on course to lead the society in 2027.
Her appointment was confirmed at the society's annual general meeting on 24 September. She was previously Deputy Vice President.
The year ahead
Over the coming year she will represent the society at events and become more involved in its programme, working alongside the current president, Guy Barnett. The society's officers usually move up through the roles of Deputy Vice President and Vice President before becoming President.
About the society
Birmingham Law Society is one of the largest local law societies in the country. It represents solicitors and other legal professionals working in the city, offers training and events, and speaks up on issues affecting the profession and access to justice.
It dates back to the 19th century and has members ranging from sole practitioners to large national firms.
Birmingham's legal sector
Birmingham is one of the biggest legal centres in the UK outside London. Many national and international firms have large offices in the city, and it is home to major courts, including the Birmingham Civil and Family Justice Centre and Birmingham Crown Court.
The sector employs thousands of people, from solicitors and barristers to paralegals and support staff, and the city's universities train many of the next generation of lawyers.
Challenges for the profession
Legal professionals have raised concerns about pressure on the courts, delays in the justice system and cuts to legal aid, which pays for legal help for people who cannot afford it. Local law societies play an important part in raising those issues with ministers and the public.
