Man chased onto bus and stabbed on Corporation Street
Three people were arrested within minutes after CCTV operators traced suspects, and a knife was recovered.
A man was left with injuries believed to be life-changing after he was chased onto a bus in Birmingham city centre and stabbed.
Police believe he was chased onto a bus parked on Corporation Street by a group, who then attacked him at about 10.30pm on Tuesday. He was taken to hospital with serious injuries and remained there on Wednesday.
Suspects arrested nearby
CCTV operators traced a number of suspects, who were arrested nearby, and a knife was recovered.
Three people were arrested, aged 21, 17 and 16. Two were in custody on Wednesday, while the 17-year-old was under arrest in hospital.
"A really serious attack"
Jenny Birch, from the force's major crime unit, said: "This was a really serious attack, which has left a man with a number of injuries which are likely to be life changing."
"We believe the incident started in the area of New Street station and then has ended on a bus which was parked up on Corporation Street."
"We're in the process of reviewing CCTV from the area and speaking to witnesses, but we really need to hear from anyone who saw or recorded any part of the incident."
Appeal for footage
The force has set up an online page where people can send images, video or other information. Detectives are especially keen to hear from anyone who was around New Street station or Corporation Street late on Tuesday evening, including bus passengers, taxi drivers and people walking through the city centre, and anyone who has phone, dashcam or doorbell footage.
Information can be given through 101 or Live Chat on the force's website, quoting 5780 of 13 October. It can also be passed anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
Update: two charged
On Thursday the force said two people had been charged. Dello Alphaoumar, 21, was charged with violent disorder. A 17-year-old boy, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was charged with violent disorder, threatening a person with a blade and possession of a hammer. Both were due before magistrates in Birmingham.
A 16-year-old boy was released on police bail while the investigation continues, and officers said they were searching for a fourth suspect.
Corporation Street is one of the busiest streets in the city centre, served by buses and trams and lined with shops, bars and restaurants that stay open late. The force has increased evening patrols in the city centre in recent weeks, including weekend teams focused on the night-time economy, and it says CCTV operators working with officers on the ground are a key part of keeping the area safe.
