Birmingham's Frankfurt Christmas Market will return to the city centre on Thursday 5 November and run until Christmas Eve, the council has confirmed.

The market will bring seven weeks of festive food, drink and gifts to the streets around New Street and Victoria Square.

A Birmingham tradition

The market celebrated its 25th year in 2025, making it one of the longest-running Christmas markets of its kind in the UK. It began in 2001 and has grown into one of the biggest German-style Christmas markets outside Germany and Austria.

It is run in partnership with the city of Frankfurt, which has been twinned with Birmingham since 1966.

What to expect

Stalls sell traditional German food such as bratwurst, pretzels and gingerbread, along with mulled wine, hot chocolate and beer. There are also stalls selling handmade gifts, decorations, toys and crafts. The market draws millions of visitors each year from across the country.

Visiting tips

The market is busiest in the evenings and at weekends, especially on Saturdays in December. Visitors who prefer a quieter experience are advised to go on weekday mornings or early afternoons.

Public transport is usually the easiest way to get there. New Street, Moor Street and Snow Hill stations are all within walking distance, and the Metro stops at Grand Central, Corporation Street and Town Hall.

Other festive events

The Frankfurt Christmas Market is usually joined by other festive attractions in the city centre, such as ice skating and Christmas lights. Details are announced by the council and organisers nearer the time.

A boost for business

The market brings a large boost to city centre shops, hotels, restaurants and bars during the busiest trading season of the year. It is also a popular stop for coach trips from around the country.
