The landlady of the Sutton Coldfield pub where a young man was stabbed to death has described trying to save his life with the pub's bleed kit as she waited for paramedics.

The man, named locally as Ayden, was in his 20s. He was attacked in the car park behind the Beggars Bush on Chester Road, New Oscott, shortly before 2am on Sunday 11 October, and died at the scene.

"I did as much as I could"

The landlady, who asked not to be named, told Birmingham Live: "I was the one who attended to him and got the bleed kit and did as much as I could until the paramedics arrived."

"There is a video going around of someone filming me helping him and shouting to him to wake up and telling him it will be ok."

She said police had told her that neither the victim nor whoever killed him had been customers at the pub that night, when an event was being held.

The pub asks people not to speculate

In a statement on social media, the pub asked people not to share "rumours, hearsay or speculation" about what happened, and said it was cooperating fully with the police.

"On the evening of the incident, our staff did everything within their power to assist the victim, using the bleed control kit available on our premises in an attempt to save their life," it said. "Tragically, despite their efforts, the victim could not be saved."

It said its security team searches customers at weekends, and that it understood the incident had caused real concern locally. It asked people to think about the distress that rumours could cause the man's family and the possible impact on the investigation.

"As a mark of respect for the victim and their loved ones, The Beggars Bush will remain closed while the family are given time and space to mourn their loss," the pub said.

No arrests

Police have confirmed that no arrests have been made. Officers are reviewing CCTV and have set up an online portal for footage, as they believe a number of people were in the area at the time.

Tributes, including a balloon reading "Daddy", have been left in the car park.

Bleed kits

Bleed control kits contain tourniquets, dressings and gloves to slow severe bleeding until help arrives. Campaigners have pushed for them to be kept in pubs, shops and public places, and many venues now hold one alongside a defibrillator. Ambulance services say that stopping heavy bleeding in the first few minutes can make the difference between life and death, and free training on how to use the kits is widely available.
